Articles usage

The Romanian language, like many others, uses definite and indefinite articles to indicate whether a noun is specific or general.


The definite article is required:

When a noun is the subject of a sentencePaharul e pe masă.
After the verb "to like" ("a plăcea")Îmi plăcea ceaiul.
When a noun is specified by an adjective or a phraseEste baiatul frumos.
When a noun is specified by a possessive adjectiveEste cartea mea.
After tot/toată/toţi/toateToate merele sunt dulci.
When a noun is preceded by the preposition "cu" and refers to an instrument, association, or means of transportationMergem cu elicopterul.

The definite article is not used:
